Chapter 58: Who Stole the Nuclear Bomb?
“What nuclear bomb? I never stole any nuclear bomb!”
Bruce Wayne’s heart skipped a beat.
“Who else could it be besides you?”
The Riddler’s eyes slowly lit up. “Damn, it seems something I don’t know has happened. A nuclear bomb? Batman, you’re in big trouble.”
Several hours later, inside the Batcave.
Bruce Wayne had dozens of Batcaves like this one scattered throughout Gotham City. Although much smaller than the one beneath Wayne Manor, they were fully equipped and ready to provide Batman with all the necessary support at any time.
At this moment, the third Robin, Tim, was holding a tablet and standing next to a retractable mobile display screen.
“Based on the information we have so far, the following individuals are likely to have the ability to obtain a nuclear bomb.”
Bruce Wayne sat in Batman’s usual seat, his back to the Batcomputer, signaling for Tim to continue. Alfred stood beside him.
Not far away, Ventriloquist, Deathstroke, Cheshire Cat, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy sat in a row. Harley was excitedly observing the facilities in the Batcave, even using the baseball bat in her hand to gesture, wanting to smash the display case next to her with a single swing and take out the Batman suit inside.
Such rude behavior was naturally stopped by Poison Ivy. Harley Quinn’s originally rigid baseball bat softened the moment it touched the glass case, wiggling like dough in Harley’s hand.
“Oh, come on!” she said.
“Our first suspect is Bane. He has both the ability and the motive to do this.”
Tim said. He flipped through the files on his tablet and then pressed a remote control. The retractable screen and the giant Batcomputer behind Bruce quickly displayed Bane’s large head at the same time.
“Those guards in Penguin’s warehouse where he stored the nuclear bomb were armed and most of them were hired goons and retired soldiers recruited by Penguin.
While selling a nuclear bomb is indeed a crazy suicidal act, according to Penguin, he has been very strict about guarding the nuclear bomb for years, and the quality of his guards has always been very high.
—However, there was not even a large-scale gun battle at the scene, meaning the attacker might only be one person, and they were a perfect sneak, killing all witnesses without any resistance. Bane is a cold-blooded killer, and he is tall and strong. There is no doubt that he can do this.
But it’s strange. Using knives is not Bane’s style. From what we know of him, with Bane’s grip strength, he would probably prefer to twist the guards’ necks directly. Of course, it’s also possible that Bane deliberately used a knife to mislead us.”
Tim continued, “But that doesn’t make sense. Bane just arrived in Gotham City. He couldn’t possibly be as familiar with the city as those Arkham inmates who have lived in Gotham for a decade or more.”
“Oswald is no fool. He knows what a nuclear bomb is capable of.
Even if he is one of the largest arms dealers in the United States, he couldn’t bear the cost of the incident being exposed. Therefore, he has always kept his possession of the nuclear bomb a secret for all these years.
Except for selling one of them a few years ago, he has never told anyone what was actually stored in that warehouse.”
“Even his most trusted Emperor Penguin never touched such a core secret of Penguin’s.”
Holding the file, he said in a somber tone, “Frankly, Oswald really surprised me. According to his account, he obtained the nuclear bomb very early, even completely before the era when Gotham was fully equipped with Bat-cameras.
But he has kept this trump card well hidden, even selling it secretly a few years ago. I am shocked that we have been beating up a mob boss who possesses nuclear weapons all these years.”
He said with a shudder, “Damn, Gotham always gives us a scare from time to time. You never know what’s hidden from the guy you’re facing.
When I first became Robin, I even stepped on his pointy nose. For so many years, Penguin has been beaten, bullied, used as a stepping stone, and even betrayed by his subordinates, but he has never used this trump card.
In a way, Oswald is the most emotionally stable person in Gotham.”
“I think my emotions are pretty stable too,” Harley Quinn mumbled.
Poison Ivy, sitting next to her, gently slapped her, and with her other hand, she grabbed Harley’s palm and scratched her palm.
Harley giggled and intertwined her fingers with hers.
Deathstroke quietly wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, maintaining an aloof and arrogant appearance while sitting there.
Help! He was just a salary thief who came here to cheat on his salary!
Why did he suddenly get involved in the content about nuclear weapons?!
The people in this city are so exaggerated.
Deathstroke silently swallowed his tears.
Cheshire Cat looked left and right. Everyone was so calm.
So she also tried to put on a nonchalant look.
“Continue,” Bruce Wayne said.
“If Oswald could even conceal the existence of the nuclear bomb from us, then Bane couldn’t possibly have discovered what we haven’t discovered in just a few months of arriving in Gotham.”
Robin continued, “Even if he has the motive and the ability, he couldn’t possibly have known the location of Penguin’s warehouse. If anyone has the possibility of discovering Penguin’s secret, it must be someone who has been in Gotham for a long time.”
“This brings us to our second suspect: Scarecrow.”
Tim pressed a button, and Scarecrow’s face appeared on the screen, displayed alongside Bane.
“Most of the time, Scarecrow seems like a cowardly coward, but he is definitely an expert in manipulating fear. Even without using fear gas, Scarecrow can still instill great fear in others and easily manipulate their minds and bodies using fear.”
“Moreover, I found some leftover fear gas at the scene. This is one of Scarecrow’s most common weapons. With the help of fear gas, he can indeed do the same thing as Bane. Of course, I admit that Scarecrow’s fear gas has long been rampant on the black market, and these low-concentration fear gases are available to anyone.”
“But after reviewing the attacker’s attack movements, we found that he attacked with a backhand grip on the knife, but this kind of scar can also be explained in another way, that is, using a scythe.”
“Therefore, even though his ability to commit murder in person is weaker than Bane’s, with the help of fear gas, Scarecrow, who is good at using a scythe to kill, could also have done it.”
“Another suspect is the Riddler, but he has been apprehended.”
Tim closed his tablet and then said, “To sum up, I think the real suspect should be between Bane and Scarecrow. Personally, I’m leaning towards Scarecrow.”
